What is a jailbroken phone?

Most often confused with an unlocked phone, a jailbroken phone is not the same as an unlocked phone. So what exactly is a jailbroken phone ? A jailbroken phone is one which has been modified to accept the softwares/applications from non authorized suppliers, mostly used in the context of app-store of iphone. Jailbreaking is usually the precursor to the unlocking process. 

 The process may sound to be jeopardous and in fact is not recommended for people who are not very accustomed to tinkering with the apps and devices.

 How to jail-breaking different from unlocking?

 Unlocking is used to allow any operator SIM module into your phone.

 Is jailbreaking illegal ?

Also, contrary to popular belief, jailbreaking is not a legal offence, though it may void your warranty!
