Mahindra launched the XUV 500 Xclusive sunroof edition

Mahindra launched a new model of its top SUV, the Mahindra XUV 500 Xclusive edition. This SUV features some new luxurious additions like the sunroof which is the first time in this class. Evidently this is a result of the collaboration of Mahindra with Ssangyong and the sunroof looks similar to the one used on Rexton. Other things remain the same with same 2.2L diesel engine doling out 140BHPs of power through six gears.

While we bring this news, two question comes to the mind: why a sunroof model? What's so special about this?

To answer the first question: even we don't know why! Mostly to appease the people who have hard time deciding between the entry level SUV and mid range one. While sunroof comes as a default or as an option in most mid range SUVs from BMW, Audi, Volvo and Mercedes it is not there in the Indian models. The main reason being the price. While it looks beautiful and simple, the sunroof costs quite some money to the manufacturers. Even on liberal estimates it must cost enough to have half a lakh price increment attached to it. On the new model, we see that this is true.

Apart from the sunroof, there are other highlights as well in this new SUV or rather we should say XUV. The driver seat now gets adjusted electronically at the tap of a button. While we have not put our fingers to it, it still sounds exciting to lay hands on an Indian car that emulates such features which were found only in expensive cars before. In our review of the Mercedes Benz GLA we have talked about the electronically adjustable seats which also have memory function with three settings memory. That too for both the front seats. While that much of sophistication is not present here, it's nice to see that the vehicle has made some great progress.

Another feature that is expected to be added is an all new entertainment system with cloud backbone. This new system shall incorporate the 7 inch display and may be touch operated. All expected features like Bluetooth connectivity and in-car call feature shall be present as expected along with new features like streaming of youtube videos and internet radios.

There is an upgrade in looks too. The SUV has more of chrome here and there, giving it a shinier appearance. The front headlight and the grills remain the same as other versions. The bonnet is hydraulic based which sounds good too though there seems not much use for it anyway. It's always nice to have one though.
