What's not known is that how you can try some simple steps to make things easier for your eyes and help you have a stress free computing over years. In spite of all these tips, the best thing you can do is cut down your exposure to the screens. Second best method is to reduce the 'black text over white' part of the screen. This can be done by inverting the color (or luminosity) to display 'white text over black screen'. This may appear to be very distracting and even irritating initially but over time, you will get adjusted to this and it will save your eyes. The reason being that when you look at a normal (white) LCD/LED, you are looking at bright sources of light with some dark areas which are formed by text. This is similar to looking at a tubelight. Imagine looking at such a screen for hours! You can follow methods 2, 3, 4 given to invert the scheme.
Method 1 : Brightness
This method is simplest to apply. Just use the setting on your laptop or desktop to cut down on the screen brightness. As easy it may sound, it is the most effective control. Just there is one small thing to keep in mind. When you reduce the brightness the screen loses it's quality as well as readability. If you make the screen too dim then it will be difficult to read or watch a movie. The trick to find the right spot. For most screens, you can safely bring down the brightness to 60% to 75% of the maximum brightness. Also give some time for your eyes to adjust to the new setting. Initially it will look dull but after some time it will be all right.
Method 2 : High contrast mode
Even this method is easy to use without any software installation. You can simply press Left Shift+Left Alt+PrtSc .It will open up a dialog as below:
Click on Yes and the windows will become dark. If this shortcut does not work, just check if the PrtSc(print screen key) is marked in blue color. If it is so, then you need to press this key combination
Left Shift+Left Alt+PrtSc+Fn
You can select multiple color schemes(4) for the high-contrast mode in appearance settings by:
